Maples Group Appoints Suzanne Correy and Finn O'Hegarty as Co-Heads of Latin American Practice

Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Cayman Islands based corporate Partners Suzanne Correy and Finn O'Hegarty as co-heads of its market-leading Latin American practice. As long-standing and highly experienced members of the Latin American practice, Suzanne and Finn now lead the dedicated Latin American team at "the most sought-after offshore firm for Latin American work"1. 

Maples and Calder's Latin American practice is a multi-disciplinary team comprised of 17 lawyers and professionals who are based across a number of the Maples Group's global offices, covering all of Maples and Calder's practice areas.  The team provides advice on the laws of the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Jersey and Luxembourg to clients in the region, with fluent Spanish and Portuguese-speaking lawyers offering specialist knowledge of Latin American markets.

Suzanne advises clients both originating from and investing into the Latin American region.  She is recommended by Chambers Global and The Legal 500 and has also been featured in Latin Lawyer 250 for her role on several innovative Latin American transactions. She is also regarded as one of Latin America's Top 100 Female Lawyers by Latinvex. Suzanne said of her appointment "I am extremely excited to have been given this opportunity alongside Finn to lead our team as we build further on the strengths of the Maples Group in the region".

Finn advises clients on joint ventures, IPOs, mergers, and acquisitions, and also advises on a wide variety of structured finance, capital markets and investment fund transactions. He is also recommended by Chambers Global and Legal 500. Commenting on his appointment, Finn said "I'm delighted to work with Suzanne to continue to grow our Latin American practice and ensure that our clients receive the best possible representation".

Maples and Calder's Latin American team continues to be selected to advise on the most high-profile and sophisticated transactions across Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Mexico, Peru and Paraguay. Recent work has included advising longstanding NASDAQ-listed client Arco Platform Limited on its US$1.5 billion take-private transaction, advising on the first sustainability-linked bond in Latin America and supporting Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes on its US$600 million financing investment from Castlelake.

In 2023, Maples and Calder was ranked as 'Highly Recommended' in the International Counsel – Offshore category2 by Latin Lawyer 250.
