Maples Group Advises IHG Hotels Resorts on Landmark Licencing of Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman

04 Jun 2024

Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm, is pleased to have advised IHG Hotels & Resorts ("IHG Group"), a global hospitality leader, on the latest addition to its diverse portfolio of properties with the licencing and onboarding of Hotel Indigo, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands ("Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman"). Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman opened its doors earlier this month with a 282-room offering on the prestigious Seven Mile Beach Corridor and is notably the first Hotel Indigo in the Caribbean. The development also marks a significant accommodation milestone for the Cayman Islands as the destination now has more than 8000 rooms available for the first time, underscoring the region's growth and appeal as a premier tourist location.

IHG Group is a global organisation with a broad portfolio of hotel brands, including InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, HUALUXE Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Indigo, and others. IHG franchises, leases, manages or owns nearly 6,000 hotels and 884,000 guest rooms in more than 100 countries.

A team based in the firm's Cayman Islands office provided Cayman Islands legal advice and licencing services in respect to the onboarding of Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman. The team comprised of Finance Partner Wanda Ebanks, with assistance from Corporate Associates Desmond Chisholm and Jared Awe, and Licencing Administrator Lenny Verhoeven.

Commenting on the transaction, Wanda Ebanks, said "We are thrilled to have advised IHG Group on the strategic local licencing and onboarding of Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman, marking a significant expansion into the Caribbean market and cementing the Cayman Islands' status as a pre-eminent tourist and financial services destination."
