The Maples Group warmly welcomes and commends the recent announcement by the Cayman Islands Government to establish an Asia office in Singapore. Led by the Government's Overseas Representative to Asia, Gene DaCosta, the office is expected to open in the final quarter of this year.

The Cayman Islands Government's decision to extend its presence into the thriving Asian market is a positive step forward and underscores the importance of fostering international connections and cooperation. Singapore's reputation as a dynamic financial hub and a gateway to Asia makes it a strategic choice for governments and businesses seeking to broaden their global reach.

Commenting on the news, Jonathan Green Global Managing Partner said, "The Maples Group has a deep-rooted presence in both the Cayman Islands and Asia and we recognise the significance of this development. We have a long history of supporting clients in navigating the complexities of international business and we continue to be well-positioned to provide comprehensive legal services and financial services solutions to clients operating in the Asia-Pacific region."

Asia Regional Managing Partner, Michael Gagie commented, "The expansion of the Cayman Islands Government's office in Singapore will undoubtedly facilitate stronger ties and collaboration between the Cayman Islands and Asia. We are enthusiastic about this initiative and look forward to continuing to support our clients in the regions where we operate. Our firm remains dedicated to assisting clients in the Cayman Islands, Singapore, Hong Kong and across the globe. We applaud the Cayman Islands Government's vision and commitment to strengthening its global presence and we stand ready to provide legal expertise and support as needed."

In May, members of the Group's Asia leadership team hosted a cocktail reception in Hong Kong in honour of esteemed guest, the Hon. André Ebanks, Minister of Financial Services and Commerce, Cayman Islands Government, who was visiting the jurisdiction. Over 150 industry professionals and leaders gathered to forge new relationships and strengthen existing ones. The Group also attended the 'Connecting Cayman' event in Singapore where Steve McIntosh, CEO of Cayman Finance, and Gene DaCosta, Cayman Islands Government Representative - Overseas Office (Asia), spoke about the importance of the jurisdiction's close collaboration with major international financial cities in Asia.

The Maples Group has been operating in Asia for nearly 30 years building an impressive team of over 300 specialist lawyers and professionals based in its Hong Kong and Singapore offices. Impressively, the law firm continues to achieve Tier 1 rankings by respected industry publications including the recent IFLR1000 2023 APAC rankings where the firm was the only law firm to receive a Tier 1 ranking for the Investment Funds: Offshore category.  The team continues to advise on some of the most successful managers in Asia including multi-billion dollar fund launches, high-profile portfolio investments and divestments, secondaries deals and top-tier restructurings.
