OVERVIEW

Harjit is head of Maples and Calder's Funds & Investment Management team in the Maples Group's London office.  She specialises in the establishment and maintenance of all kinds of alternative investment funds in the Cayman Islands.  She advises numerous leading European fund managers and their onshore counsel on the formation, ongoing legal and regulatory compliance, restructuring and termination of different types of Cayman Islands investment vehicles, including hedge funds, hybrid funds and private equity funds.  Harjit also regularly advises clients on a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions, including shareholder arrangements and regulatory matters such as AML, FATCA and CRS compliance, and Cayman economic substance requirements. 

BACKGROUND

Harjit joined the Maples Group in 2007 and was elected as a partner in 2015.  She previously worked for Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Sydney, Australia, and before that, as a research assistant to a judge in the equity division of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia.  Harjit has been ranked by Chambers Global and Chambers UK, where she has been described as "excellent" and "commercial and pragmatic" and has been named in Who's Who Legal.  She has also been recommended in Legal 500 as being "technically extremely strong".  Harjit has also been ranked as one of the 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds by the Hedge Fund Journal.
