Maples Group Donates to INSOL International Bursary Fund Following Contribution to Private Equity Education Programme

The Maples Group has donated a speaker honorarium received from INSOL International to the organisation’s bursary fund following its contribution of two specialist educational sessions to INSOL International’s private equity, private credit and alternative investments programme. The bursary fund supports education and professional development opportunities for restructuring and insolvency professionals worldwide.

INSOL’s Private Equity programme brings together industry practitioners from around the world and is designed to enhance understanding of the key legal, commercial and structural considerations relevant to private funds and alternative investments. As part of the programme, lawyers from the Maples Group delivered two sessions covering fund structures and jurisdictional comparisons across major private fund domiciles.

The first session, Fund Structures, provided a practical introduction to how private funds are established, organised and operated. The session explored traditional fund structures, the roles of general partners and limited partners, vehicle selection, co-investment and sidecar arrangements, credit fund structuring considerations, financing solutions and emerging market trends. The session was delivered by Partners, Alex Howard, Pádraig Brosnan, Of Counsel, Owen Rowlands and Associate, David Walters.

The second session, Jurisdictional Comparison, examined the relative advantages of four leading fund jurisdictions and the practical considerations influencing sponsor domicile decisions. The session covered the Cayman Islands, Ireland, Jersey and Luxembourg and explored topics including fund structures, regulatory and tax frameworks, restructuring considerations, market trends and jurisdiction-specific strengths. The session was delivered by Partners, Dan Beckett, Fearghal De Feu, Mark Crichton and Michelle Barry.

The sessions were developed in collaboration with INSOL International and were recorded as part of the organisation’s online educational offering for restructuring and insolvency professionals worldwide. The recordings have since been made available to those who participated in the course through INSOL’s education platform.

Commenting on this collaboration, Harjit Kaur, Partner and Head of Maples and Calder’s Funds & Investment Management team in the London office, said:

“We were delighted to collaborate with INSOL International on this important educational initiative. Private funds and alternative investment structures continue to evolve rapidly and there is significant value in helping restructuring and insolvency professionals develop a practical understanding of the legal, regulatory and commercial considerations that shape today’s market. These sessions provided an opportunity to share insights from across our global funds practice and to showcase the comparative strengths of leading fund jurisdictions. We are also pleased to support INSOL’s bursary fund, which helps expand access to education and professional development opportunities across the global restructuring community.”

Dr David Burdette, Head of Education at INSOL International, thanks the Maples Group for their valuable contribution, not only to the INSOL International Bursary Fund but also to the content of the Short Course in Private Equity, Private Credit and Alternative Investments for the Restructuring and Insolvency Professional 2026. The INSOL International Bursary Fund provides access to INSOL’s educational offerings for those who would not otherwise be able to participate, and INSOL is delighted to receive such a large donation to help further this mission.

The Maples Group would like to thank INSOL International for the opportunity to contribute to the programme and looks forward to continuing its support of industry education initiatives in the future.
