Sheryl Dean Named Among 50 Leading Women in Private Markets

The Maples Group is proud to announce that one of its Partners, Sheryl Dean, has been recognised in the inaugural edition of Hedge Fund Journal’s Private Markets: 50 Women Leaders 2024 report. Impressively, the prestigious report names some of the world’s highest rated individuals working in private markets.

Sheryl, who is a partner based in the Cayman Islands office, heads up the firm’s Cayman Islands Funds & Investment Management practice, the largest funds practice by headcount and client base in the jurisdiction. With nearly 20 years’ experience working in the private funds space, Sheryl leads the teams for some of the firm’s largest clients and is regularly instructed to act for some of the world’s leading private equity managers by AUM. Notably, Sheryl recently led the team who advised Bain Capital on its largest Asia private equity fund to date which closed at USD 7.1 billion, exceeding its target by 40%.

Sheryl’s extensive experience in the private equity and credit space and reputation for creating and developing solutions to meet clients’ on-going legal and regulatory needs is consistently recognised with leading rankings in the major legal directories. She specialises in private fund structures and investments and represents a wide range of sponsors, from large institutions to boutique and start-up investment managers, advising on the structuring, formation and operation of private funds and advising on downstream transactions and portfolio investments. Sheryl advises sponsors on their carry allocation and management vehicles. She also works on a number of related corporate transactions, including consortium deals and joint ventures, co-investments, buy-outs and restructurings.

Commenting on the accolade, Sheryl said, “It is a privilege to be recognised by Hedge Fund Journal and among a number of very accomplished leaders in the market. I would like to thank my industry peers and my incredible team at the Maples Group for always supporting me and challenging me when needed – it makes working in this industry very rewarding!”

Michael Richardson, global head of the firm’s Funds & Investment Management practice said, “Sheryl’s reputation as one of the most accomplished private funds lawyers precedes her. Sheryl leads an extremely strong and talented team of lawyers who have worked hard to establish Maples’ leading position in the Cayman Islands market acting for private fund managers, institutional investors and their external legal advisers.

He added, “The Maples Group is uniquely placed to offer clients the choice of structuring private funds in the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Ireland, Jersey or Luxembourg from our offices based in these jurisdictions. With additional legal practices in Dubai, Hong Kong, London and Singapore, we are able to spot industry trends and respond seamlessly to clients from the location that best suits their needs.”

Notably, Maples Group Partners Gwyneth Rees, Heidi de Vries, Harjit Kaur, Jo Cunningham, Ann Ng and Eimear O’Dwyer have previously been recognised by Hedge Fund Journal in its long-running ’50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds’ report.
