Sheryl Dean

Sheryl is head of Maples and Calder’s Funds & Investment Management team in the Cayman Islands. In this role, Sheryl is responsible for the strategic direction, performance and growth of the team and works closely with the other offices and business units across the Group to support cross-practice collaboration. Sheryl manages the global relationships with several of the Group’s largest clients while leading key business development, recruitment and knowledge management initiatives and mentoring and developing the next generation of funds lawyers.

Sheryl acts for a range of investment advisers, from start-up managers to global institutional sponsors across the full spectrum of asset classes. She advises on all aspects of private investment funds, their upper tier arrangements and their underlying portfolio investments.

Sheryl is widely recognised as a leading investment funds lawyer and has been consistently ranked by the legal directories for many years. She is ranked by Chambers and Partners, recognised as “Highly Regarded” by IFLR1000, and named a “Leading Partner” by Legal 500. Sheryl has also been listed among the 50 Leading Women in Private Markets by the Hedge Fund Journal.

Sheryl joined the Maples Group in 2012, having previously been a partner at an international law firm in the Cayman Islands. Prior to her move to the Cayman Islands, she worked in the corporate and M&A teams at Slaughter and May and Gibson Dunn, respectively, in London. Sheryl began her legal career in the corporate team of Russell McVeagh in New Zealand.
