OVERVIEW
Peter is Managing Partner of Maples and Calder, in the Maples Group's Dublin office. He is widely recognised as one of Ireland’s outstanding lawyers and was previously head of the firm's industry leading Funds & Investment Management Group. He holds several senior positions on industry groups and regularly works with Irish regulatory and governmental bodies on enhancing Ireland’s legal framework and the implementation of EU laws. He is a recognised legal expert in financial services law, including ESG matters and sustainable finance initiatives, and advises some of the world’s largest managers, funds and financial institutions in that space.
BACKGROUND
Peter joined the Maples Group in 2010. He was previously a partner with a leading Irish law firm. He is widely recognised as a leading lawyer in the financial services arena in Ireland and has been recommended by industry journals including IFLR1000, Legal 500, Chambers Global and Who's Who Legal. Clients describe him as "an exceptional adviser who handles everything, resolving issues as soon as they arise", "his broad expertise is very sophisticated and impressive; his breadth of knowledge of all things Ireland-related is really remarkable" and commenting that "when any matter touches Ireland, I think of Peter Stapleton". PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Peter is an active industry participant and regular contributor to thought leadership pieces in leading Irish and international legal publications and journals. He is also a frequent conference speaker and has delivered lectures on financial services law for the Law Society of Ireland and the Commercial Law Centre of University College Dublin. He holds several senior positions on steering groups for Irish Funds, AIMA, Sustainable Finance Ireland and other leading industry associations. He has also served on the Board of a number of Ireland’s leading charitable organisations in the financial services sector.
