Maples Group Excels Winning Six China Deals of the Year 2023

Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm, is delighted to announce that its Asia practices have received six Deals of the Year awards by China Business Law Journal. Published annually by the China Business Law Journal, the report recognises the most significant and innovative transactional and case-based legal work that have taken place in various sectors and practice areas within the Chinese legal market.  In a year marked by intense competition, this is a remarkable achievement for the Maples Group.

A multi-disciplinary team of lawyers across the firm's Asia Corporate and Finance practices advised on the following award-winning transactions in the Equity Capital Market, Loans & Financings and Merger & Acquisitions categories:

Equity Capital Markets: 

  • Kingsoft Cloud's Hong Kong dual-primary listing.  Led by Corporate Partner, Richard Spooner with assistance from Corporate Of Counsel, Jessica Zhan. 
  • Lotus Technology's SPAC listing on NASDAQ.  Led by Corporate Partner, Karen Zhang Pallaras with assistance from Corporate Legal Manager, Charmaine Chow.
  • SharkNinja’s spin-off listing on New York Stock Exchange.  Led by Corporate Partner, Karen Zhang Pallaras with assistance from Corporate Of Counsel, Jessica Zhan.
  • WuXi XDC Cayman's spin-off listing in Hong Kong.  Led by Corporate Partner, Derrick Kan with assistance from Corporate Associate Janelle Ho.

Loans & Financings:

  • NIO offers USD1billion convertible senior notes.  Led by Finance Partner Lorraine Pao with assistance from Finance Of Counsel, Irena Wu.

Mergers & Acquisitions:

  • Chindata privatisation.  Led by Corporate Partner, Karen Zhang Pallaras with assistance from Corporate Of Counsel, Vivian Lee.
