Sophia Scott is a partner in the Corporate and Latin America practices at Maples and Calder in the Cayman Islands. She advises international financial institutions, investment managers, corporates and ultra-high-net-worth individuals on complex cross-border transactions involving the Cayman Islands.
Sophia’s practice focuses on cross-border corporate transactions, investment fund structures and strategic investments involving Latin America and international markets. She regularly works with global law firms, financial institutions and regional advisers on transactions that utilise Cayman Islands structures for international investment and financing.
Her experience includes advising on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructurings, structured finance transactions and the formation and operation of hedge funds and private equity funds. She also advises clients on establishing investment platforms and holding structures in the Cayman Islands for global investment strategies.
Sophia has particular experience advising entrepreneurs, family offices and ultra-high-net-worth individuals on establishing investment and operating structures in the Cayman Islands, including corporate structuring, governance matters and local licensing.
In addition to her international work, Sophia regularly advises Cayman Islands-based businesses and international investors on strategic transactions, acquisitions and corporate governance matters.
Sophia is an active contributor to industry publications and has co-authored the Cayman Islands chapters of the Chambers Global “Doing Business In” Guide and the Legal 500 Comparative Guide to Project Finance.
She joined the Maples Group in 2007 and was admitted as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2009.
Sophia is a member the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association (CILPA) and currently serves as vice president of the CILPA council.
