Areas of Expertise
Shane is a legal manager of Maples and Calder’s Dispute Resolution & Insolvency team in the Maples Group’s Hong Kong office. He possesses substantial experience advising on sophisticated cross-border insolvency and restructuring mandates, as well as high-value shareholder disputes, general commercial litigation, and contentious matters relating to trusts and probate. Shane’s practice encompasses representation of leading financial institutions, corporates across diverse sectors—including medical technology, energy, and digital assets—as well as High Net Worth individuals. Shane is recognised for his ability to navigate complex, multi-jurisdictional disputes and deliver commercially focused solutions to clients operating in challenging and dynamic markets.
Shane joined the Maples Group in 2025, bringing with him a wealth of experience acquired across several leading jurisdictions. Prior to joining the firm, Shane practised with a prominent offshore law firm in Hong Kong, following a period at a distinguished boutique litigation practice in the British Virgin Islands. Earlier in his career, Shane was in private practice at the Bar of Ireland. Shane has been involved in some of the most complex and high-profile cases and liquidations to come before the courts in the BVI. His work has contributed to the development of significant legal precedents in both the BVI Commercial Court and the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal. Shane is particularly adept at advising clients with corporate structures and/or commercial interests in the People’s Republic of China, and he is well-versed in collaborating with onshore counsel in that jurisdiction to deliver seamless, strategic advice.
