Maples and Calder, the Maples Group’s law firm, is pleased to announce the continued expansion of its Asia Dispute Resolution & Insolvency offering with the arrival of senior lawyer Shane Quinn, who brings a wealth of experience to the team. Shane’s appointment underscores the firm’s strategic commitment to deepening its bench strength in complex cross-border litigation, restructuring and insolvency mandates across the region.
Recognised for his ability to steer multi-jurisdictional disputes to commercially driven outcomes, Shane brings more than a decade of wide-ranging experience advising leading financial institutions, multinational corporates and high net worth individuals on some of the most sophisticated and high-value matters in the market. His practice covers cross-border insolvency and restructuring, shareholder and joint-venture disputes, trust and probate litigation, as well as contentious issues arising in the rapidly evolving digital-assets sector. Clients regularly turn to Shane for his pragmatic counsel on matters involving China-linked corporate structures, where his fluency in coordinating seamless onshore-offshore strategies delivers clear advantages.
Shane joins the Maples Group from another offshore law firm in Hong Kong, having previously practised with a boutique litigation practice in the British Virgin Islands and, earlier in his career, at the Bar of Ireland. He has appeared in several landmark proceedings before both the BVI Commercial Court and the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal, contributing to precedent-setting decisions that continue to shape the region’s jurisprudence. Shane is admitted to practise in the Territory of the Virgin Islands and is called (non-practising) to the Bars of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and England & Wales.
Commenting on the hire, John Trehey, Partner and Head of the Dispute Resolution & Insolvency practice in Asia, said: “Shane’s arrival further cements our position as counsel of choice for clients navigating contentious matters that span multiple jurisdictions, time zones and legal systems. His first-hand experience at the cutting edge of offshore litigation, combined with a deep understanding of restructuring dynamics in Greater China, will be invaluable to our clients and our growing team in Hong Kong.”
The Maples Group’s Asia Dispute Resolution & Insolvency team has acted on many of the region’s most significant mandates, including high-profile Section 238 dissent proceedings under the Cayman Islands Companies Act. Recent representations for 58.com and 51job, Inc. in the two largest merger-appraisal cases to date exemplify the team’s ability to deliver creative and commercially sound solutions in the face of complex valuation and procedural challenges.
Shane added: “I am delighted to join the Maples Group at such an exciting juncture for the practice. The team’s reputation for technical excellence and its track record on market-defining disputes speak for themselves. I look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued success and to helping our clients navigate the evolving legal landscape with confidence.”
