Maples and Calder, the Maples Group’s law firm, is pleased to announce that its Latin America practice has won the Mining Financing Deal of the Year at the 2026 LatinFinance Project & Infrastructure Finance Awards.

The award recognises the firm’s role as British Virgin Islands (“BVI”) counsel to Serra Verde Group (“Serra Verde”) on the US$565 million financing package from U.S. International Development Finance Corporation. The financing will support the refinancing of existing loan facilities and the further optimisation and expansion of Serra Verde’s rare earth mining and processing operations in Brazil.

The firm’s BVI team was led by Chris Newton, BVI Managing Partner, with assistance from Associates Chloe Parsons, Elliot Ruffle and Ciara Dunne.

Commenting on the award, Chris, said, “Transactions of this nature require close collaboration across jurisdictions. We are delighted to have supported Serra Verde on this important financing and to see the collective efforts of our team’s contribution recognised by LatinFinance.”

This award follows the Latin America practice’s recognition at the 2026 Latin Lawyer Awards1, where the Maples Group won Private Equity Deal of the Year and Restructuring Deal of the Year. Together, these accolades highlight the firm’s experience advising clients on complex cross-border transactions across Latin America.
