As part of its Early Careers Programme, the Maples Group hosted a mixer with students and faculty of the Truman Bodden Law School (“TBLS”) in the Cayman Islands, which marks the first of many student-focused events planned for this year aimed at enhancing the relationship between the TBLS and the Maples Group. The event served as a platform for the Group to connect with future talent who may be suitable for the Group’s scholarship, internship and legal training programmes.
The event, which took place on 12 March, was exclusively attended by students in the third year of their LLB or those enrolled in the Professional Practice Law course at the TBLS. This select group of aspiring legal professionals had the unique opportunity to engage with members of the Maples Group’s Early Careers Committee, including Matthew Gardner, Managing Partner of the Cayman Islands Office; fellow partners Caroline Heal, Christina Gordon and Jonathon Meloy; as well as Ahisha Bodden, the Group’s local Head of HR. Christina who, herself, was is an alum of the TBLS and completed her Articles with the Maples Group in 2009, delivered the welcome and closing remarks at the event, representing a full circle moment in her career as a lawyer.
Other key employees from the Group’s HR team, as well as past legal scholars and current Articled Clerks, were present to share their experiences and insights.
Anjuli Muttoo, Learning and Development Lead for the Cayman office, described the event as one of many such initiatives the Group has planned. ” We are committed to fostering a supportive and informative environment for future legal professionals. Our plan is to build connections among aspiring lawyers, educating them on the offerings at our law firm, and to provide platforms to answer any questions they may have about the legal industry.”
“Thank you to the TBLS student society for their invaluable representation of the school and their support in making this event a success,” added Karlie Lovinggood, Learning and Early Career Specialist. “We also extend our gratitude to faculty members Andrew Perkins and Alexis Mavrikakis for their participation and insights, which sparked excitement for future collaboration, and, of course, to all of the students who attended and actively participated in the event.”
The Maples Group Articles of Clerkship programme offers a comprehensive pathway for aspiring lawyers to gain practical experience and develop their legal careers. Participants of the programme benefit from a personalised mentorship approach, supportive work environment, practical skill development, networking opportunities and a prospective job offer upon successful completion.
Applications are accepted year-round at any point in a student’s educational journey.
