These strategic additions underscore the Group’s continued commitment to strengthening its Channel Islands presence and supporting client demand across corporate, funds, banking and commercial practice areas.
Mark Slater joins the firm as Of Counsel in the Investment Funds team, bringing extensive experience advising on investment funds, banking and finance matters following more than a decade in private practice in Jersey. He was recently admitted as a Jersey Advocate.
Michael Hill joins as an Associate in the Finance team, adding further depth to the team’s commercial and corporate offering following his prior experience in Jersey law firms.
Nick Evans, Head of the Jersey Office, commented:
“We are delighted to welcome Mark and Michael to the Maples Group. Mark brings significant expertise in investment funds and transactional work, enhancing our ability to support clients across key sectors. Michael adds strong commercial capability and will be a valuable addition to our expanding practice. Their appointments reflect our continued investment in Jersey and our commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients.”
As part of its broader investment in developing Jersey’s legal talent pipeline, Maples also continues to support students through its Jersey Bursary Scheme, which provides a structured programme of summer placements, mentoring and financial assistance throughout university studies. It is also a proven stepping-stone towards qualification as a lawyer through our Jersey Trainee Programme.
Both initiatives are designed to give aspiring lawyers meaningful exposure to legal practice, alongside ongoing guidance from the firm’s Jersey team.
Applications for the 2027 trainee intake close at midnight on 28 February 2026 and interested students are encouraged to apply via the Jersey Trainee Solicitor Programme webpage.
