Maples Group Announces Partner and Of Counsel Promotions in Europe

Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm, is pleased to announce the promotion of nine of its senior lawyers in Europe.  The international law firm appointed four new Partners and five new Of Counsel to its Dublin, Jersey, London and Luxembourg law firms, further strengthening its deep bench of expertise in the region.

In Europe, Partner promotions included Eugene McCormick and Karole Cuddihy (Dispute Resolution & Insolvency, Ireland), Michelle Barry (Funds & Investment Management, Luxembourg) and Morgan Pierse (Corporate, Ireland).  In addition, Amy Black (Finance and Corporate, Jersey), Christopher Oliver (Corporate, London), Nichola O'Reilly (Finance, Ireland), Shae Roberts (Funds & Investment Management, London) and William Darmody (Corporate, Ireland) were promoted to Of Counsel.
 
The appointments are effective immediately and form part of the law firm's annual global promotions.  This year, 17 new Partners and Of Counsel were appointed across seven of the firm's practices, with a strong representation across Europe, in particular.  Globally, the law firm's Funds & Investment Management practice saw the largest intake of new Partners and Of Counsel, followed closely by Dispute Resolution & Insolvency, Corporate, Finance and Financial Services Regulation.  In total, there were two promotions in Asia, nine promotions in Europe and six in the Caribbean region.

About the New Partners:

Eugene McCormick

Eugene specialises in commercial litigation and dispute resolution across a variety of areas including financial services, landlord and tenant, and professional negligence.  He has extensive experience conducting large scale and complex litigation, including multi-jurisdictional disputes.

 

Karole Cuddihy

Karole specialises in corporate insolvency and restructuring.  His work includes advising on liquidations, receiverships and examinerships, including acting for insolvency professionals, creditors, directors, shareholders and potential investors.  He also has significant experience in advocacy before the Irish courts

 

Michelle Barry

Michelle advises clients on a wide variety of legal, regulatory and compliance matters, with a particular focus on the structuring, establishment, ongoing operation and regulation of all forms of Luxembourg domiciled investment funds (including private equity and private debt funds).  Michelle's experience also includes acting for a wide range of fund service providers, including investment managers, administrators, depositaries, management companies and AIFMs.

 

Morgan Pierse

Morgan specialises in corporate law and has a broad corporate and commercial practice including advising Irish and international clients on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and private equity transactions, joint ventures, loan portfolio transactions and corporate reorganisations. He has significant transactional experience and expertise across the financial services and technology sectors.  

About the New Of Counsel:

Amy Black

Amy has knowledge and experience of a wide range of finance and corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures, structuring/establishment/operation of acquisition and holding structures, corporate and financing downstream private equity transactions, lender and borrower side financings and leveraged/structured financings.  She also advises on listing services on The International Stock Exchange.

 

Christopher Oliver

Christopher advises on both Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands law and has extensive experience of a wide range of corporate matters, with particular expertise in public and private M&A transactions, stock exchange listings (particularly special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) on NYSE / NASDAQ, Euronext (Amsterdam) and London Stock Exchange), corporate restructurings and joint ventures. 

 

Nichola O'Reilly

Nichola has experience across a broad range of debt capital markets and structured finance transactions. Her experience includes advising on real estate debt securitisations, convertible and high yield bond offerings as well as the work out of legacy CMBS transactions and cross border debt portfolio disposals and associated financing covering various jurisdictions across Europe, including UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

 

Shae Roberts

Shae specialises in the establishment, ongoing maintenance and restructuring of hedge funds, private equity funds and other alternative investment funds in the Cayman Islands.  He also advises clients on the regulatory aspects of different types of Cayman Islands investment vehicles.

 

William Darmody

William advises on a wide range of corporate transactions. He has been involved in many of Ireland's most significant equity financings and M&A transactions in recent years and has experience across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on technology, life sciences and aviation. He has built a strong reputation in the market due to his commercial understanding of clients' needs and his solution driven approach.
