Phishing Scam: Warning from the British Virgin Islands International Tax Authority

The British Virgin Islands International Tax Authority (“ITA”) has issued a notice dated 22 January 2026 warning of a phishing scam impersonating the ITA.

The ITA notice warns that the suspicious emails come from addresses that end in .vg.co. These emails may appear to be legitimate but are not authorized communications from the ITA.

Please note that BVI government authorities’ email addresses end in .vg

The ITA strongly encourages industry to:

  • Carefully review any emails claiming to be from the ITA
  • Verify the sender’s email address before opening any links or attachments
  • Avoid clicking links or downloading attachments from suspicious messages
  • Report and block any suspected phishing emails in accordance with the recipient’s organization’s security procedures

Industry is asked to send any queries to [email protected]
