Josie Ainley

Josie is a partner of Maples and Calder’s Funds & Investment Management team in the Maples Group’s Hong Kong office. Her practice focuses on investment funds for international clients advising on all aspects of Cayman Islands and BVI matters relating to the establishment, launch and maintenance of both private equity and hedge funds. Josie also has extensive experience in corporate and downstream transactions and regularly advises on regulatory matters. She consistently acts for international high profile clients in both the private equity and hedge fund space.

Josie works on complex fund launches and restructurings and has stood out as an exceptional advisor, able to provide knowledgeable guidance on all related matters in an accessible and commercial manner. Josie has been recognised as a winner of Practice Area Award – Offshore, Practice Area Award – Investment Funds and Jurisdiction Award – Hong Kong SAR at the IFLR Rising Stars Awards Asia-Pacific 2022. She has also been recognised as a Rising Star in Asia-Pacific Region – Hong Kong under the practice area of Offshore: Corporate & Finance and Investment Funds at the Legal 500 Asia-Pacific 2023.

Josie has also been on the 100 Women in Finance committee for 6 years, having co-chaired the committee in 2023. In addition, Josie regularly leads training and information sessions for numerous clients across Asia, including various AIMA events, and legal training institutions such as LexOmnibus. Josie joined the Maples Group in 2015. She previously worked for Clifford Chance in London and Hong Kong in a general regulatory role, focusing on financial and corporate regulation and specialising in fund and derivative regulatory issues.
