The awards, hosted by specialist funds publication, Private Equity Wire, recognise excellence among GPs and their service providers in the private equity sector.  The winners were revealed at a virtual networking ceremony on 8 October 2020.

The Maples Group has a long legacy of supporting and advising on the formation, structuring and financing of private equity funds and notably has the largest funds practice in the Cayman Islands. The practice is further supported by Cayman practising lawyers based in Dubai, Hong Kong, London and Singapore, ensuring clients have access to expert advice and bespoke support, within convenient time zones. The practice also maintains a leading position in the Cayman Islands market and in 2019 worked with onshore firms to advise on a large portion of the established private equity funds in the jurisdiction.

“We are very honoured to receive this prestigious recognition from Private Equity Wire and its readers. The accolade highlights the exemplary work of our lawyers and their impressive expertise and specialist knowledge in relation to private equity transactions. We are incredibly proud to act for nine of the world’s top 10 private equity firms and are fortunate to have advised, in conjunction with onshore counsel, on some of the most complex and interesting fund raising matters over the past year.” said Michael Richardson, Partner and Head of the Cayman Islands Funds & Investment Management team.

As a jurisdiction, the Cayman Islands was also recognised at these awards and was voted the ‘Best Private Equity Fund Domicile.’  This acknowledgement further demonstrates that global investors recognise the Cayman Islands as a leading International Financial Centre for private equity and funds matters generally.

For the awards, Private Equity Wire partnered with Bloomberg to pre-select managers and service providers based on their performance over the previous 12 months. The winners were then decided via a rigorous reader-choice online poll carried out over a period of ten weeks. The winners in all categories were those who attracted the most votes from Private Equity Wire’s readers.
