Maples and Calder, the Maples Group’s law firm, is pleased to announce it has once again earned top rankings in the 2023 edition of the Chambers Global Guide. The firm secured 19 practice group placements and 61 individual lawyer accolades spanning its British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dubai, Jersey, Hong Kong, Ireland, London, Luxembourg and Singapore jurisdictions and practices.

Of the 19 practice groups ranked, the firm was awarded Band 1 rankings for nine of its core practice groups. The Guide recognised the firm as “extremely strong technically and very commercial in their approach”, “equipped with the most comprehensive service capabilities among its peers” and “able to deliver well on international projects”.

Of the 61 global individual lawyer accolades, notably, there were six new lawyers recognised by the Guide, specifically Partners Matt Roberts, Anthony Philp, Michael Johns, Grant Dixon, Tim Dawson and Johan Terblanche; and four lawyers have received the prestigious ‘Eminent Practitioner’ title, namely Partners Michael Gagie, Peter Stapleton, Jonathan Green and Richard May.

The firm’s lawyers were described as “incredibly responsive”, who are “pragmatic and operate well under pressure” and are “commercial and come up with innovative solutions to complex problems”.

Commenting on the rankings, Global Managing Partner, Jonathan Green said, “It is incredibly validating to once again be endorsed by Chambers’ prestigious Guide across so many of our global locations and practice groups.  We are extremely grateful to our clients for their feedback, and I would also like to thank our talented and experienced lawyers for their dedication in providing the highest quality legal advice and service to our clients.”

The rankings and reviews are based on interviews with the firm’s global clients and industry peers, alongside an analysis of work undertaken over the past 12 months.

The first Chambers rankings were published in 1990 and the guides currently research over 200 jurisdictions worldwide.  Individual lawyers are ranked on the basis of their legal knowledge,  experience, ability, effectiveness and client service. Law firm departments are ranked on the qualities of their lawyers as well as the effectiveness and capability of the department as a whole.
