Richard Byrne

Richard has more than 25 years’ experience in the financial services sector, spanning investment management, banking and capital markets, with extensive experience across both front-office and risk functions and a range of senior leadership roles.

Richard is Head of Fund Risk at Maples Fund Management and a Central Bank of Ireland-approved Designated Person for Fund Risk Management (PCF-39C), with responsibility for independent second-line oversight across the UCITS and AIF platform. He has extensive experience in investment risk, risk governance, liquidity, leverage and credit risk, as well as developing and enhancing risk management frameworks and policies.

Prior to joining Maples, Richard was Associate Director – Risk at Carne Group, where he provided risk oversight across a broad range of UCITS and AIF funds, including complex alternative strategies.

Before moving into fund management, Richard spent 13 years at Ulster Bank, where he held senior roles including Head of Market Risk within the Financial and Market Risk division and Head of Structuring and Execution within the Markets division. His earlier career included roles in structured products, product control and financial accounting within AIB Capital Markets and Bear Stearns.
