OVERVIEW
Philip is head of Maples and Calder's Funds & Investment Management and Corporate teams in the Maples Group's Dubai office. He has broad Cayman Islands corporate and investment funds experience. However, he specialises in collective investment schemes, in particular private equity funds, real estate funds, Shariah compliant (Islamic) funds and hedge funds. Philip’s clients include asset managers in the Dubai International Financial Centre and the MENA region. He also practises British Virgin Islands law.
BACKGROUND
Philip joined the Maples Group in London in 2004, before moving to Dubai in 2006. He was elected as a partner in 2009. Philip previously worked for Harney Westwood & Riegels in the British Virgin Islands and, before that, for Herbert Smith in London. He has been ranked as one of the best lawyers in the UAE by Best Lawyer magazine and recommended as a Band 1 lawyer in both Legal 500 and Chambers Global, where he is described as "someone you go to if you want to bounce around ideas," adding: "He's the sort of lawyer who's able to give you an outside-the-box solution." Philip has also been named as one of Islamic Finance News' leading lawyers and has received recognition from Who's Who Legal.
