OVERVIEW

Jonathan is head of Maples and Calder's Finance team in the Maples Group's London office.  He has extensive experience in international capital markets, banking, fund financing, aircraft financing (including co-investment platforms with private equity investors and aircraft portfolio securitisations) and structured finance (including securitisation, structured fund products, derivatives, repackagings and CLOs) as well as listing securities on the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange.  He represents both borrowers and large bank syndicates on lending transactions and all types of secured transactions.  Jonathan also advises a large number of financial institutions on derivatives and issues surrounding collateral and netting in the context of insolvency in the Cayman Islands.  He also has considerable expertise in all aspects of establishing and maintaining closed and open-ended hedge funds and private equity funds in the form of corporate entities, limited partnerships and segregated portfolio companies.

BACKGROUND

Jonathan joined the Maples Group in 2004 and was elected as a partner in 2007.  He previously worked for Allen & Overy in London and Hong Kong.  Jonathan has been recognised as a leading lawyer by IFLR1000 and recommended by Legal 500 and Chambers UK.  Jonathan authored the country Q&A guide to Capital Markets in the Cayman Islandspublished by the Practical Law Company.
