Maples Group Advises Singapore Investment Manager relating to Maiden Secondaries Fund

10 May 2023

Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm, is pleased to have advised Aquilius Investment Partners ("Aquilius"), a Singapore-based investment manager, in connection with the closing of its maiden fund, AIP Secondary Fund I, LP., which has over US$400 million in client commitments. The Aquilius team has also raised an additional US$200 million of managed accounts available for co-investments from its investors. Aquilius is targeting investments in secondary transactions across the Asia Pacific, with the aim of building broadly-diversified asset portfolios at attractive risk-return profiles. The fund has already made existing investments across a comprehensive set of secondary solutions ranging from the acquisition of limited partnership interests to recapitalisation of closed-ended funds and joint ventures.

A team of lawyers based in the firm's Hong Kong office, led by head of the Asia Funds & Investment Management practice, Ann Ng and assisted by Associate, Anna Chen acted as Cayman Islands legal counsel to Aquilius. The team provided Cayman Islands support to Aquilius and has worked closely with the relevant parties to ensure a successful and timely close of the transaction.

Commenting on the transaction, Ann said, "We are delighted to have assisted Aquilius on this milestone. We expect secondaries funds will continue to be a global trend and the Maples group has the ability to provide multi-jurisdictional legal advice and bespoke support within convenient time zones. As a long-standing client of the firm, we look forward to supporting the Aquilius team on more exciting opportunities in the future."
