OVERVIEW

John is a partner in the Finance practice and head of the Insurance practice in the Maples Group's Cayman Islands office.  He specialises in structured finance, corporate and commercial transactions, fund finance and insurance.  His structured finance practice is focused on CLO transactions and insurance-linked securities.  His insurance practice covers insurance regulatory matters, the licensing of insurance companies, financing transactions with insurance companies and general insurance matters.

BACKGROUND

John joined the Maples Group in 2001.  He previously practised with Clifford Chance in London, where he completed a secondment to the fixed income desk at Lehman Brothers. Before that, he practised with Lang Michener (now McMillan) in Canada.  John has been recommended for insurance and reinsurance by Who's Who Legal and noted in Chambers Global and Legal 500 for catastrophe bond transactions. Clients report that John "instils the highest confidence with his expert advice, deep knowledge of Cayman law, and ability to understand issues from the business perspective. He not only efficiently answers my questions, but by understanding the business needs, he also answers the questions I didn’t even know I needed to ask."
