Core Programme

As a Trainee in Dublin, you will complete four rotations through our legal services practice areas which include Corporate, Data, Commercial & Technology, Employment, Finance, Funds & Investment Management, Dispute Resolution & Insolvency, Property, and Tax.

Your first rotation or pre-seat will take place in advance of attending the Professional Practice Course (the PPC) in the Law Society in September of each year. This allows you to kick start your career and get to know the other trainees in your intake prior to starting PPC.

It is important for us that each of our Trainees is involved in shaping their own career path and as such your areas of interest will be taken into account when assigning the various departments that you will gain experience in. These rotations will give you an opportunity to build your knowledge, while discovering where your interests and strengths lie.

Learning & Development

Learning and development is a central part of our Trainee Programme. Our Trainee Programme has been designed to supplement the PPC and includes a wide range of department specific workshops, seminars, and practice group insights. As you progress through your traineeship, you will have the opportunity to showcase your talent and creativity by putting your skills into practice. Presentation, drafting and other core legal and business skills sessions are also delivered throughout your traineeship by both internal and external experts.

Throughout the Trainee Programme, you will have an opportunity to share an office with Partners, offering you the chance to become acquainted with senior professionals where you will experience different working styles while learning the key skills required to become a successful lawyer.

Continued professional development is an important aspect of your career with the Maples Group and feedback is a central part of your of the programme. There is a mix of informal and formal feedback and we actively encourage you to ask questions throughout your traineeship.

Support Network

Our Trainee Partner Committee will provide day-to-day support in each of your rotations. This committee is responsible for working with you to ensure that your professional development progresses during the time spent in each department.

Your Training Partner will play an active role from the beginning of your traineeship with the firm right through to qualifying as an Associate in the firm. The role of the Training Partner is to act as a coach and mentor, providing guidance and support throughout your training programme. You will meet with your Training Partner regularly during your traineeship.

Secondments

As a global organisation which values a culture of collegiality, we are keen to allow our Trainees to experience life in our other offices. Each year, our Dublin Trainee Programme allows successful trainees to complete an overseas rotation in one of overseas offices with potential locations including Hong Kong, the Cayman Islands, Jersey, Luxembourg and London offices. Further secondment opportunities, including client secondments, may be offered to selected trainees in each intake, depending on the needs of the firm and our global client base.
