OVERVIEW

James is a partner in Maples and Calder's Funds & Investment Management team in the Maples Group's Cayman Islands office.  He advises on the establishment, authorisation, operation and maintenance of all types of Irish domiciled investment funds, with particular focus on ICAVs regulated under the UCITS or AIFMD regime.  James advises global asset managers on a broad range of asset classes and the implementation of strategies through a variety of complex multi-jurisdictional fund structures and he has significant experience in advising large asset managers on their optimal use of Irish structures within their global product offering  . He also advises sponsors seeking to obtain authorisation of an Irish entity as a UCITS management company, AIFM or MiFID investment firm and the exercise of management passport permissions for such entities across the EU.  In addition, he advises and supports clients on all aspects of regulatory change effecting their Irish funds.

BACKGROUND

James joined the Maples Group's Ireland office as a trainee in 2011.  Upon qualification in 2014, he joined the Funds & Investment Management team in Ireland and in 2017 he joined the Cayman Islands office.
