OVERVIEW

Derrick is a partner of Maples and Calder's Corporate team in the Maples Group's Hong Kong office.  His practice covers a broad range of corporate and finance matters involving Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands companies, with particular focus on initial public offerings in Hong Kong, US and Taiwan, mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, joint ventures, pre-IPO financings, debt capital markets transactions, reorganisations and restructurings.

BACKGROUND

Derrick joined the Maples Group in 2003 and was elected as a partner in 2016. He previously worked for Holman Fenwick Willan LLP in Hong Kong.  Derrick is ranked as a notable practitioner in IFLR1000.  Derrick is a native Cantonese speaker and is fluent in Mandarin.

BAR ADMISSIONS

1998 – Admitted as a solicitor and barrister of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia (not practising as a solicitor in Victoria)

2003 – Admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong (not practising)

2007 – Admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales (registered in Hong Kong as an English solicitor (not advising on English Law)
